The Giles County 4-H Teen Leadership Club met last night for the monthly meeting. Below you will find the meeting minutes that has important dates and deadlines for 4-H Summer Camp & other upcoming events. Please contact the

March 4-H Teen Leadership Club Meeting Minutes
President Tanner
Ganoe called the meeting to order at 7pm. Daniel Pierson and Cory Falls led the
American and 4-H pledges. There were no minutes or treasurer’s report to be
given. Having no unfinished business the group moved to new business.
The 2014 Garlic
Mustard Challenge was discussed and club members were encouraged to attend on
April 19th at the Cascades in a 4-H shirt. The event runs from 9
until noon. The Spring Clover Campaign at Tractor Supply Company was discussed.
This is an opportunity to raise money for the Giles County 4-H program. Cory
made the motion to have Cora devise a time table for club members to sign up to
be at TSC to help sell the $1 clovers. Johathan seconded the motion and it was
discussed to have 2 hour increments. The motion passed. The April 26th
Giles Family Resource Day was then discussed. 4-H is helping with face painting
and having a display. Club members Tanner Ganoe, Cory Falls, Daniel Pierson,
and Danielle Stephens volunteered to attend to help Cora with this event.
Narrows Kids Fishing Day is on May 10th. Daniel Pierson has
volunteered to help Cora set up the Fish Painting station. Other club members
were encouraged to show up to fish or help.
Camp deadlines and
paperwork was discussed. All counselors and CITs must have application,
enrollment, health history, and code of conduct turned in to the Extension
Office by March 21st. There is a training that all teen counselors
must attend at the 4-H Center on April 12th. The paperwork deadline
is March 28th. Johathan Ash, Amber Bradley, Jennifer Bradley
(adult), Kyle Holt, and Marie Keller (adult) have completed and turned in their
form. Members were reminded that scholarship applications are due to the
Extension Office by April 4th. Other important dates are:

- Apr.
12th- CIT & Camp Counselor Training at 4-H Center
- June
16-19th- Virginia State 4-H Congress at Virginia Tech
- June23-27th- 4-H Overnight Camp at 4-H Center
- August
4-8th- District 4-H Camp at 4-H Center
Johathan, Tanner,
Cory, and Daniel are interested in attending the “Learning the Ropes” training
with Dr. Jim Cain. Members are required to register themselves, it costs $49,
and to let Cora know if transportation is needed. All counselors are invited to
attend this training and can register at mid-atlantic.aee.org. Other upcoming
events included the March 21-23 Shooting Sports Instructor Certification. If
you are interested in attending to help start the Giles Lead Slingers group,
you are asked to talk with Cora. Members were asked to help spread the word to
other interested adults in Giles. The 2014 Virginia State 4-H Congress was then
discussed. Aaron Collins, Johathan Ash, Daniel Pierson, Danielle Stephens, and
Cory Falls have so far expressed interest in attending. This premier leadership
event will take place on the campus of Virginia Tech, June 16th-19th.
Kyle Holt also expressed interest in attending but may have work commitments.

The evening program
was guest speaker Cory Falls. Cory is currently serving as the Southwest
District Ambassador on the VA 4-H State Cabinet. He mentioned that is the 100th
anniversary of the Cooperative Extension Service and that Congress this summer
will highlight activities to celebrate that occasion. In talking about Congress
he told the group about the contests and colleges workshops, the competitions,
the All-Star tapping ceremony, the awards banquet, State Cabinet elections, and
the Share-the-Fun show. He also mentioned that the full Congress photo this
year will be a night photo with glow sticks! Cory shared with the group that
the event is a leadership opportunity and that the attire is business
professional.
Final reminders for
the evening included the Giles Youth Adult Partnership meeting on March 13th
at 4pm. Tanner Ganoe and Cory Falls will be attending the meeting at the
Pearisburg Town Hall. The next 4-H Teen Leadership Club meeting will be on
April 9th at 7pm. The group will be completing a community service
project that includes no-dew fleece blankets for the local CHIP program and
discussing county hosted events at 4-H Summer Camp. The group took their
meeting picture and adjourned at 8:10pm.
