July Newsletter
On the next few pages you will find information regarding our upcoming club meetings, activities, & events. You are welcome to contact the Giles County Extension Office to sign up for any of these activities. We would also be happy to answer any questions!
Upcoming 4-H Events:
Friday, July 4th at 9am- Newport 4-H Club Meeting/Parade Prep. Join the Newport 4-H Club at the Newport- Mt. Olivet UMC to decorate the 4-H float and celebrate the 4th of July!
Monday, July 7th at 6:30pm- Narrows Now 4-H Club Meeting. Health Rocks activities! Join us at the Narrows Community Center (old NHS) for our club meeting. New members are welcomed and encouraged!!
 Wednesday, July 9th at 6pm- 4-H Teen Leadership Club Meeting. Meet us at the Extension Office to car pool up to Cherokee Flats for our post-camp campfire! We should return around 8pm.
Monday, July 14th at 6:30pm- Horsin Around 4-H Club Meeting at Harmony Hills Equestrian Center. Please contact Reanna at (540) 357-0800 for more information on this club and club meeting. They love new horse lover members!
Friday, July 18th from 5-8pm- Homemade & Homegrown at the Narrows Farmers Market. ‘Movies at the Market’ starts around 8:30. This is a free family-friendly movie; bring a blanket, & the family! July movie will be BABE!
Saturday, July 19th- Craig County Livestock Show. See information included in this newsletter.

Monday, July 28th at 6:30pm- Rich Creek 4-H Club Meeting at the Rich Creek Library. Health Rocks activities!! Bring a friend & join the fun…
August 4th-8th 4-H District Camp at the Skelton 4-H Center. Visit their Facebook page or stop by the Extension Office to get your registration brochure. Also see information included in this newsletter.

August 8th at 4:30pm- Newport Agriculture Fair Livestock Show. Please see show schedule/rules attached to this newsletter.

Newport Livestock Show
Friday at 4:30pm

4-H and FFA members in Giles and counties surrounding Giles, including counties in West Virginia.
Important: All livestock must be haltered and broke to lead

Rules for Livestock Show:                                            
1.     Livestock must be on the fairgrounds by 2pm on Friday.                             
2.     Livestock show will begin at 4:30pm on Friday and will follow the class order listed in this book.                               
3.     Exhibitors will be responsible for their animals including care, feed, water, and showing.                               
4.     Classes with large numbers will be subdivided at the discretion of Show Management.                                  
5.     All cattle must be haltered and broke to lead.                                  
6.     Livestock must be removed by 2pm Saturday unless special permission by the livestock superintendent is received.                   
7.     The judge's decision is final.                                   
8.     Exhibitors must be members of the Giles or surround counties to Giles in VA & WV 4-H Club or FFA and must meet all age requirements.                           
9.     Animals do not have to be registered or purebred.

Other upcoming events:

Hello, Patrick County will be holding its 1st livestock show during the Patrick County Agricultural Fair during the week of September 16-20 located at Stuart Rotary Field on Woodland Drive. Our livestock show will focus on the categories of T-Shirt Design, Commercial Junior Ewe Show, Junior Market Lamb Show, Junior Market Goat Individual, Commercial Junior Breeding Meat Goat Show, Sheep and Goat Costume Contest, and Junior Stockman’s Contest.
